Dry stone masonry

Craft - Esthetics - Ecology

Building dry stone walls is a blend of craft, art and ecology. The very labour intensive method of construction of stacking stones without using mortar is environmentally friendly, as every dry stone wall forms a little ecosystem. Traditional dry stone walls are built of stones gained from from quarrys or like in the past from rock slips, fields, creek beds or th like. The stones don't have an exact geometrical form, they are worked as little as possible. Appearance, texture and colour of dry stone walls are largely dependent of the type of stone used and the degree of working of the surfaces.
